&lt;p&gt;I use it all the time with menu and tree systems where I want a simple representation of a object but quick access to that object on a event.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;One problem with tags are that since you can put in what ever you want, you best keep track of what you are adding where and why.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;You can easily do the same with attached properties IMO, which in addition allows you to have multiple, different kinds of properties, which are even type-safe! &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I tend to register those in the App class for simpler apps.&lt;/p&gt;
